The short version
Puppetbooth processes camera video on your computer and passes the result to applications using its virtual camera. Puppetbooth does not operate a server that receives your camera feed. Snap Camera Kit connects to Snap to provide its services, and apps such as OBS control any recording or streaming you start there.
Camera and video processing
Puppetbooth uses your selected camera to apply augmented reality effects through Snap Camera Kit. A lens may analyze features such as face position and movement to render an effect. Puppetbooth does not create a face identity database or use that processing to identify you.
The current app passes processed frames through local memory to its preview and virtual camera. It does not include a video-recording or camera-upload feature, request microphone input, or request precise device location.
When another application opens the Puppetbooth virtual camera, it receives the processed video. That application and any streaming service you use handle the video under their own settings and privacy policies. Closing the Puppetbooth window can leave the camera running in the system tray; choose Quit Puppetbooth from its tray menu to stop it.
Snap Camera Kit
Puppetbooth uses Camera Kit, provided by Snap Inc., to load and run Lens Studio lenses. The app connects to Snap and its content-delivery services to authenticate the integration and retrieve lens and runtime assets. These network requests expose connection information such as your IP address to the receiving services.
Snap may collect technical, usage, and diagnostic information through Camera Kit to operate and improve its services. Snap handles information under its Privacy Policy. Camera Kit also presents Snap’s terms and privacy notice as part of its consent flow.
The current Puppetbooth build does not ask you to sign in with Snapchat or request access to your Snapchat profile, friends, or messages. Local camera processing does not mean the application works entirely offline.
Settings and diagnostics on your computer
Puppetbooth stores camera preferences and embedded-browser data, including cached assets and consent state, on your computer. Local configuration identifies the configured lens.
To show which apps are using the virtual camera, Puppetbooth reads local connection information, including process identifiers and available process names.
The app can write local warning and error logs. Developer diagnostic and benchmark tools can also create local reports containing device information, lens identifiers, process information, and performance measurements. These tools do not save camera video or audio in their reports. The current build has no Puppetbooth-operated analytics upload service.
Local settings, caches, and reports remain until removed or replaced. Quitting the app ends its active camera processing; it does not automatically erase files already saved on disk.
Website visits and messages
This website has no account registration, advertising, analytics scripts, or camera access. It does not set its own tracking cookies. The hosting and delivery providers process ordinary request information, such as IP address, requested page, browser information, and time of access, to deliver and protect the site.
If you contact Puppetbooth, the contact address and information you send are used to respond and resolve your request. Please do not send camera recordings or diagnostic files unless they are needed for your question. Correspondence may be retained while handling your request and for necessary follow-up or legal obligations.
Your choices
- Control camera access through Windows privacy settings, and quit Puppetbooth to stop the current camera session.
- Choose which applications receive the virtual camera, and manage recording or streaming inside those applications.
- Remove local settings, cached browser data, and diagnostic reports from your computer when you no longer need them. Ask for help if you need to locate those files.
- Contact Puppetbooth about access, correction, or deletion of information you have sent directly. Available privacy rights depend on where you live.
Requests about information held by Snap or by your recording or streaming service should also be directed to that provider.
Changes to this policy
Puppetbooth is in development. We will update this policy when its data practices change and revise the date above. Features that are still planned, such as accounts or cloud-based lens management, are not described here as current capabilities.
